Vetern Firemen's Home
Veteran Firemen's Home --This building still stands, though changed. About 1920 a VFW post took it over, and the LIC Exempt rented space until they disappeared about 1950. The VFW sold it to a medical clinic in 1999. It is the small building on the left

Big Six
Big Six --This was the famous Big Six of Boss Tweed fame. It bears the painted image of a tiger, later known as the Tammany Tiger, which the political cartoons of Thomas Nast made famous as a symbol of urban corruption. After Boss Tweed's arrest and disgrace, NYC was anxious to rid itself of this relic. Perhaps during the 1880s it was purchased by the LIC Fire Department. We believe that around 1950 it was transferred back to Manhattan and is now in the NY Fire Museum
