PRESERVATION ISSUE
Remsen House

Block 510, Lot 53: Greek Revival house (note eye-brow windows) on acre of land. The property anchors a block in Old Astoria Village, a community of dozens of pre-Civil War homes and buildings. It sat on an acre of land. Some of its streets are 350 years old. This is the most historic community in the borough. In any other borough, indeed, any other part of Queens, this community would be saved by the home owners, community board, elected officials, and local civic leaders working together finding solutions to preserve an irreplaceable part of our heritage.

Block 510, Lot 58: Separate lot with entrance. May be the former cemetery of the 1838 Dutch Reformed Church in the adjoining property? Church has gravestones from cemetery dumped in its back yard. One stone for Stephen Halsey, the "Father of Astoria." This house was destroyed several years ago.
