GAHS was deeply saddened to learn about the possibility that this beautiful church and cultural landmark might be demolished. It is more than bricks and mortar to both the congregation and the community.
The minister of the church commented as follows:
"At this time, the Presbyterian Church of Astoria is looking at how it can
continue to faithfully serve the community as it has for over 150 years. It is dealing with a difficult decision and we ask for the prayers and support of the community."
The photos below were sent anonymously with a note attached. The writer read in the papers about GAHS saving a cornerstone of a local synagogue. The sender wanted us to keep a permanent record of this church. The note simply stated that the congregation was soon to vote on replacing it.
We offer our services to the minister and the congregation to assist them in learning about alternate ways to save their church.
