Long Island City was formed when the village of Astoria joined with other
settled areas in western Queens. Today, Long Island City is composed of
several strong and distinct neighborhoods. Many are historic with landmark-quality
buildings and areas.

Throughout the years, and at present day, many more communities have
existed. Some more formally than others.
