Sunnyside Gardens was developed in the 1920s as a mixed-income, affordable community with low-rise buildings, a private park and a unique system of communal gardens. We'll tour this fascinating neighborhood while discussing its history and preservation. Also featured will be the Phipps Apartments, another fascinating garden apartment complex; Sunnyside Park, one of only two private parks in NYC: some Turkish and Romanian markets and the home of Bix Beiderbecke, another of the many jazz giants to have resided in Queens. A Historic New York Tours walk, co-hosted by the Greater Astoria Historical Society.
