Dave "The Bridge Man" Frieder Discusses Scaling
Great Heights to Photograph New York City's Bridges
Photographer Tells GAHS What It's Like to Sit "On Top of the
World"
Serious photojournalists are known to go to great lengths to take the
perfect photo. But few photographers scale the "great heights"
that Dave Frieder does while documenting New York City's bridges in pictures.
Frieder, known affectionately as "The Bridge Man," has climbed
15 of New York City's great bridges, all for the express purpose of immortalizing
these man-made wonders in images. Frieder will be on hand at the Greater
Astoria Historical Society (GAHS) at 7pm on Monday, March 3rd to show
off some of those spectacular images during a slide lecture entitled "Dave
Frieder-On Top of the World, Photographing NYC's Bridges."
"Dave Frieder is the Ansel Adams of New York City's bridges,"
said Bob Singleton, GAHS's president. "But not only are Dave's photos
stunning, his hair-raising stories about scaling the city's great bridges
are truly amazing."
Frieder's words and images have appeared in such noted publications as
The New York Times, The Dallas Morning News and Shutterbug
magazine. Frieder has also been a featured guest on The Learning Channel,
New York's MSG Metroguide and WNBC's "Today in New York." In
one of his most famous segments, he was interviewed by Morry Alter of
CBS while atop the Brooklyn Bridge for the CBS Evening News.
GAHS is located in Quinn's Gallery, 35-20 Broadway in Long Island City.
