GAHS Hosts Advisor to the Film "Gettysburg"
to Kick Off "Civil War Saturdays"
The nationally known Civil War Re-enactor is best known for his
depiction of General A P Hill
Famed Civil War re-enactor Pat Falci will lead the charge at the Greater
Astoria Historical Society on Saturday, January 18th in a special lecture
entitled "The Man in the Red Battle Shirt." The slide lecture-to
take place at Quinn's Gallery, 35-20 Broadway, LIC, NY beginning at 1
p.m.-will detail the life of "General A.P. Hill," the Confederate
General who Falci has portrayed on screen and in numerous Civil War re-enactments
up and down the East Coast. Falci, a native Astorian, played the role
of General Hill in the 1993 film "Gettysburg" alongside Martin
Sheen and Tom Berenger. Falci was also historical advisor on the movie,
which was adapted from Michael Shaara's novel.
"Along with being a brilliant performer, Mr. Falci is an expert
on the Civil War with a wealth of knowledge about this fascinating period
in our nation's history," said GAHS president Bob Singleton. "If
you want to be entertained as well as enlightened, come join us for Pat's
dynamic presentation."
The lecture will help kick off "Civil War Saturdays" at the
Historical Society, which will feature screenings of Civil War classics
including "Gone With the Wind" on January 25, 2003 and "Gettysburg"
on February 1, 2003. The screenings are part of the historical society's
film series "At the Movies with GAHS."
