Casablanca (75th Anniversary) – Saturday November 11 @ 1 PM

Set in Casablanca, French Morocco in December, 1941, a cynical expatriate encounters a former lover, with unforeseen complications.

The movie won three Academy Awards, Best Director (Michael Curtiz), Best Picture, and Best Adapted Screenplay (Julius Epstein) and it starred Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid and Claude Rains.

Although Casablanca initially was not recognized as a classic, its stature grew over time.

Today, considered by the United States National Film Registry as being “culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant,” its ranked by Time Magazine as “one of the 100 greatest films of all time.”

This is the 75th Anniversary of a timeless classic from 1942.

This program is supported by the membership of the Greater Astoria Historical Society and the surrounding communities of Long Island City.
